Does the Web really need another web hosting directory?
Honestly, doesn't there seem to be an over-abundance of hosting sites that either serve as a directory, a review site, or a magic top ten list of the "best hosts the Internet has to offer?" Didn't these sites already do a good enough job at informing the consumer of which hosts are "truly" the best ones to use? Well, we don't think so, and neither should you.
RateMyWebHost.com was built to provide webmasters and small business website owners with a better system of comparing quality web hosting providers.
The fact is that 99% of the web hosting directories and host review sites you'll find on the Web are out to make as much money as possible. Normally, that's not a bad thing in the slightest. That's capitalism. But it is a bad thing when most of them don't care one bit about actually telling consumers which hosting providers are truly good ones to use.
All they are really doing is telling you which hosts pay them the most money. That's all.
They'll fill their websites with banner ads and blinking graphics from whichever host pays them the most money for traffic and sales. Are those companies paying for banner ads necessarily good hosts or bad hosts for the consumer? Who knows?
They'll only list maybe 5 to 10 hosting companies per category with a randomization script that keeps changing the order those hosts appear in. So which one is really a good host? Which is the best one? And they only include hosts in their directory that pay to be there in the first place. They just want you to choose one, any one. It doesn't matter to them. The host directory has already been paid for the limited choice of hosting accounts they are displaying to you.
Many hosting review sites list their "top ten web hosting accounts", which turn out to be the top ten web hosts that offer an affiliate program. This means the website owner gets paid when that host makes a sale from a referral off of their site. And since their entire top ten list of web hosts pays them something, they'll get paid no matter which of their deceptive "top ten hosts" you pick. And of course you know that the "#1 ranked" host pays them the most money; the second highest paying host is #2; and so on.
Isn't that just wonderful for them? And not so helpful for you? Are those hosting companies with affiliate programs necessarily good hosts or bad hosts for the consumer? Again, who knows?
At RateMyWebHost.com, we think consumers and small businesses should be able to search for a host that truly offers a good service, rather than which one has the biggest marketing budget. So, we've made it completely free to get listed in our directory.
We list any hosting provider that we feel offers quality web hosting accounts. These hosts will then be rated and reviewed by webmasters and customers who have used their services. We think this provides a better method for YOU, the customer, to compare and evaluate hosts by their reputation and by how well they've served their past clients.
Our staff will be on constant lookout for attempts to stuff votes, to list unprofessional or fraudulent hosts, or to otherwise unfairly influence the rankings within our web hosting directory. We want to bring you a fairer, more accurate list of the "best hosts on the Web" . . . not because we say they are or they paid us to, but because the webmaster community says they are the best.
Whether a host has a huge marketing budget or none at all, they can get listed here. It doesn't matter to us if a host operates an affiliate program or not. We'll display them for you to evaluate because all of them will be ranked in due time by the webmasters who visit our site.
The good hosts will always rise to the top of the lists, right where YOU need them to be.
If you find our directory is not living up to its goal, or if you have any constructive comments that you'd like to direct to our webmaster, please don't hesitate to contact us.
